  • The Perks of Housesitting

    On the Road, Again!

We’re leaving our snowy climate (got about ten inches of snow since yesterday) in a couple of weeks to spend Christmas in sunny California and we won’t have to spend a dime on accommodations! That’s because we’ll be housesitting for a family while they’re away. We’ll be caring for their two sweet dogs, Imo and Dakota,  for the fourth time since we discovered the joys of housesitting.

We’ve been housesitting for almost three years during our cold midwest winters. So far we’ve had assignments in California, Arizona, and Washington state. We’ve cared for dogs, cats, birds and even chickens, ducks, and geese! And we’ve made great friends of the homeowners, too.

We don’t charge for our services; we take care of the homes and pets in exchange for lodging. Totally a win, win deal. The website is based in Australia so there are lots of opportunities there but there are housesits available all over the world.

After we registered with the website we began to receive emails daily that notify us whenever someone has posted a request for a house/pet sitter. If we’re interested we send a message and if we’re not, we just don’t respond – it’s a simple as that. It’s very secure and there are lots of guidelines available.

You can find the website at https://housecarers.com/.  Check it out.

  • On Peace (Personal)

    Picture of snowy daySaturday Quote

I think that each Saturday I’ll post a favorite quote or an empowering thought that I have.

I don’t know who originally said today’s quote but it’s one of my favorites:

Peace: It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart.

A huge snowfall is predicted today. There’s not much that’s more peaceful than a beautiful snowfall.

  • A Step Forward

picture of dream catcherYesterday I entered a Dream Job contest. I had to submit an essay and describe my “dream job”, explain how I intend to obtain my “dream job,” and convey how journaling of my job pursuit experiences could benefit other job seekers.
I chose an internet business as my dream job and described three different concepts. I’m sure there will be thousands of entries but at least I took a positive step!!!!

  • A Thought About Tolerance

This is one of my favorite quotes. What do you think?
“People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they’re not on your road doesn’t mean they’ve gotten lost.” H. Jackson Brown
As a fairly opinionated person, it’s important for me to remember this.

  • Decisions, Decisions…

Book and coffeeIf I could have any business I want what would it be?
    1. An independent bookstore with new and used books. There would be comfy chairs and I would offer special teas and coffees. I’d have a children’s story hour and a book club for grownups.
    2. A little cafe open only for breakfast and lunch. Small but warm and welcoming.

    3. A business offering affordable interior design and home staging consultation.

    4. A retail shop selling all natural and environmentally conscious products. Everything from safe toys to housewares to cosmetics. I’d offer foodstuffs such as jams, jellies, etc. that are packaged by locally owned companies.
    5. An internet business. I’ve got several ideas for websites.

I really can’t do the bookstore, cafe or interior design ideas because we travel so much. Maybe in a couple of years, we’ll decide to stay home.

So, the internet business it is! This blog is the very beginning. It’s getting me out of my comfort zone.

  • Motivation

Photo of Coffee MugWell, this is the first posting in this new blog.  Actually, it’s my only blog!
It was an AARP contest that interested me…write a blog post about your dream job and you could win a mentor.
Today’s musing is this: Do a little bit every day – an hour early each morning would be good – toward making my Dream Job come true. I’m not ready to reveal what that might be – that will take another measure of courage. “Stay focused” will be my mantra.
I’m not telling Jack or anyone about this just yet.
